Illustrations by Jordi Abelló, texts by Aleix Cort.
The red color has a special role; representing a life pulse, the blood that moves through the veins of the book. Likewise, this colors surrounds the work with a religious and mystical air, which gives it a certain sense of solemnity.
‘Vida’ (‘Life’) is a scientific and poetic book, simple and complex, open and closed. A place to reflect on life through poetry, or to reflect on poetry from a vital point of view.
The book uses two different types of paper to separate the different sections. The first one, weighting 60gr, reminds of the bible paper. This evokes the mystic aura of the book and creates or completes meanings through the transparency of the paper. The second type, Sunken Pure Rough 170gr, is a paper that, together with the illustrations and the texts, takes us to the world of the artist’s sheet.
The odd and even pages of the book are understood as a whole, where each pair of texts and images form a sheet that is understood as a unique piece, and at the same time as a part of the total of the work.
The composition of texts and images varies every certain number of pages, forming the verses of a poem that hides within the content of the book.
This poem is formed with one or several words from the texts that accompany the illustrations. These words are highlighted in red, creating a continuous thread through the pages of the book, which is joined in the last poem.
The final piece is composed, as a poem and as some kind of an index, where the numbers leave a record that allows the reader to jump to any point of the book.
The book has been produced in a limited and numbered first edition of 101 units. Each book has been intervened with a handmade illustration from the artist Jordi Abelló, which turns each book in a unique specimen.
